Announcing

I don't have much time for this (gf wants to get on so she can play Snood), but I want to piggyback on something Carmina mentioned on her blog earlier today.

The announcers for the World Cup are fucking incredible. They add so much to my viewing experience (with the exception of Ally McCoist, who I couldn't understand if it was my job). I don't really get soccer that well, but I am willing to listen to these bros talk about it because of their sweet accents. They all sound like James Bond. They use the coolest words like "speculative" and "splendid" and "odious" and "brilliant." They know when to talk, when to get excited, when to explain the action, and most importantly, they know when to SHUT THE FUCK UP. I thank Jeebus every day that ESPN didn't send Chris Berman to South Africa to call the USA games. Bob Costas ruined Stephen Strasburg's debut by talking the entire time (well documented by Deadspin).

I want my commentators to add to my experience by explaining the action in an entertaining and accurate way. I don't need some pinhead like Costas or Berman trying to interject himself into the action by talking over the game for the sake of hearing himself speak.

There is no way I can imagine anyone calling this goal any better.
